ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, is organizing Spain's Official Pavilion at the FOODEX JAPAN fair, due to be held at the Nippon Convention Center (Makuhari Messe) trade fair complex in Tokyo from 7 to 10 March 2017.

This year's event will be the 42st for this international food and drink sector fair. FOODEX has been held on an annual basis since 1976 and is targeted exclusively at a professional audience. The show attracts a large number of leading food sector buyers, including wholesalers, retailers, supermarkets, catering firms, drinks importers, restaurant owners, etc.

FOODEX takes place every year at the Makuhari Messe international conference center in the town of Chiba (a suburb of Tokyo) and is the largest food show of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, including Oceania. In 2016, the fair was attended by more than 78 countries. This is a major showcase event for companies interested in breaking into and/or consolidating their position in the Japanese market and the Asia market in general.

Japanese consumers are very keen to try new products and usually think that food and drink imported from Europe is better quality and more trustworthy. Japanese consumers tend to opt for products that are "healthy", "organic" and with proper traceability. In this sense, European products have the edge over those from other regions. In addition, fresh meat exports to Japan (especially Ibérico meat) along with ham, wine and olive oil, have risen considerably in recent years.
