Get Ready for Alimentaria 2018!

Biennial gourmet trade fair Alimentaria kicks off today, April 16 in Barcelona – this year in conjunction with hotel and restaurant trade show Hostelco – attracting some of the greatest innovators and innovations in gastronomy today.

This four-day event is a true culinary extravaganza, with 150 gastronomy-centric activities, 120 conferences and thirty-five chefs on-hand to share their expertise.

Among those chefs that will be on hand to get the culinary ball rolling on this, the first day of Alimentaria 2018, will be Madrid chef Paco Roncero of La Terraza del Casino, who will be discussing “The 21st-century avant-garde. Cosmopolitan impacts”; chef Javi Estévez of La Tasquería (Madrid) talking about “Traditional and creative cuisine: reinterpreting organ meat”; and seven Michelin-starred chef Carme Ruscalleda – whose flagship restaurant is three-starred Sant Pau (Sant Pol de Mar, Barcelona) – who will be talking about “Contemporary hotel cuisine. Interspersing tradition and the avant-garde.”

Then, this afternoon Andoni Luis Aduriz of Restaurante Mugaritz, located in Errentería (Guipúzcoa, Basque Country), will give a talk entitled, “Neo-marine flavors. The extreme manipulation of the sea”; and Mario Sandoval, of Madrid restaurant Coque, will reveal his work with bull meat in a talk entitled, “The meat explosion. The latest secrets”.

Day one of this important congress will wrap up with talks by the chefs from two of Spain’s most recent three Michelin-starred establishments: Lasarte (Barcelona) and Aponiente (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz). Lasarte’s chef Paolo Casagrande will talk about “The tasting-menu challenge. Making high-complexity dishes,” and chef Ángel León will discuss “Neo-marine flavors. Compositions with abyssal light.”

Alimentaria, together with Hostelco, will fill approximately 100,000 square meters of space at the Fira de Barcelona with food, gastronomy, restaurant equipment, chefs, business opportunities, demonstrations and much more – welcoming some 150,000 professional visitors from all over the world.

Alimentaria is of course the largest trade fair in Spain for the agri-food industry and one of the largest in the world.
