Salón de Gourmets Awards Announced

The winners of the seventh edition of the Premios Salón de Gourmets (Salón de Gourmets awards) were presented with their awards on May 10th in Madrid, during the final day of this international trade fair.

Three prestigious awards were handed out last Thursday morning to the most innovative agri-food products of the year – all of which had been on display throughout the week at the Salón de Gourmets – the international trade fair held in Madrid from May 7–9, 2018. The winners were selected by an expert jury that included María Naranjo, the director of the Food and Gastronomy Division of ICEX Spain, Trade and Investment.

More than 1,300 innovative new products were featured at the Salón de Gourmets, on display in glass cases in a special exhibition area. Despite the sheer number of products, only three received the top awards – one in each of the three categories.

In the category of “Innovation,” the company Aceite Valdezarza won for its new format of extra virgin olive oil, presented as an extremely fruity blend created specifically for serving with octopus. In the category of “Presentation,” Pasteleria Belenguer won for its Serie Art, a collection of artisanal, gluten-free bonbons. No two of these hand-painted delicacies are alike, and they come in eighteen surprising and delicious flavors.

Finally, the white artichokes form Tudela de Vehortu won the award for “Versatility,” thanks to the preservation techniques used on these cleaned, pasteurized and vacuum sealed artichoke hearts.
