ICEX Wines from Spain in Germany and Ministry of Foods, Agriculture and Fisheries of Spain, through the Economic and Commercial Office in Düsseldorf, organizes for trade and horeca channel professionals, Sommeliers, WSET Diploma holders, sommelier and gastronomy schools as well as for the press and bloggers a series of seminars, both online and in person, in order to train and inform about current issues of Spanish viticulture. In these Tastings/Seminars, the most current viticultural topics in Spain and in the participating Denominations of Origin will be discussed.
The seminars and Tastings to be held in 2021 will be:
17.05.2021 17:00 -18:00
by Pedro Ballesteros who will illustrate the geographical reorganisation of the PDO, the new categories Cava de Guarda and Cava de Guarda Superior as well as the associated quality requirements in an entertaining hour (and in English).
31.05.2021 17:00 -18:00
by David Schwarzwälder, connoisseur of the Spanish wines and wine scene, who will present highlights of the diversity of Albariño styles as a reflection of the different sub-regions of the Rías Baixas. Starting with soft, flowery Albariños from the border with Portugal, through acidic, crisp Cambados from the limestone-dominated Atlantic coast, to continental and structured Albariños from the interior. The webinar will be accompanied by an exemplary selection of six wines to be tasted.
David Schawarzwälder presents in this webminar various organic wines from the southeastern Spanish apellation, which show that the efforts of the Yecla PDO to develop into a region dominated by organic viticulture were spot on. The prevailing conditions are optimal. The Monastrell grape variety, which dominates the region, is extremely adaptable and frugal in view of the extremely warm, rough and barren highlands of the Yecla PDO. Characteristics that, by the way, should also make it the perfect wine partner for climate change. The webinar will be accompanied by an exemplary selection with six wines to be tasted.
ICEX/Wines of Spain is sponsoring the MUNDUS VINI international wine competition organized by the MEININGER publishing house, which will consist of a paired dinner with Spanish wines and the organization of a commented tasting seminar of Spanish wines. This year the DO CAVA will present 6 cavas under the theme "CAVA shows its origins: the new segmentation and zonification rules".
The dinner menu offered to the juries of the international competition will be paired by a selection of wines from Spain that show the great contrasts of Spanish viticulture and the omnipresent influence of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean influence. The dinner and tasting will take place on Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, headquarters of the Meininger publishing house.
Together with one of the best-known German wine influencers, Björn Bittner, ICEX/Wines from Spain and the DOP Valencia will launch a multi-week promotional campaign in July around the Valencia region.
The tasting notes and Björn's insights into this enchanting can be read in the coming months on his blog BJRLeBouquet as well as on his social media channels.
ICEX/Wines of Spain organizes on October 3th, a master class tasting led and commented by the specialist David Schwarzwälder at the SCHOOL OF WINE of the gastronomic congress CHEF SACHE with the title “Die Zukunft ist grün – Spaniens Entwicklung zum vielseitigsten Bio-Weinproduzenten / The future is green - Spain's evolution into the most versatile organic wine producer".
With the Wine Trade Summit, Meininger Verlag offers a new event platform for interested employees from wine departments and wine consultants from the wine and food trade and independent food retailers.
