Video: Three Spanish Wines from… María José Huertas, Head Sommelier at La Terraza del Casino restaurant
Our video series featuring recommendations from top Spanish sommeliers includes this special episode with María José Huertas, the head sommelier at one of Madrid’s most renowned restaurants, La Terraza del Casino (2 Michelin stars). Are you ready to learn which three Spanish wines have recently surprised her the most?
María José Huertas’ career has spanned more than 20 years in the world of sommeliers, and she was one of the first women to make a name for herself in this profession, not only in Spain, but also in Europe. She has played a key role in helping La Terraza del Casino earn its place in the limelight. Helmed by chef Paco Roncero and characterized by its signature cuisine, the restaurant boasts two Michelin stars and three soles (suns) from the Guía Repsol.
In this video, María José Huertas presents us with three truly appealing wines, starting with a white wine made from Palomino grapes by a winery in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz (Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana). Next is a red wine made from a native Spanish grape variety that is all the rage in international markets — Garnacha — which in this instance is cultivated in vineyards found at more than 1,000 meters in the Sierra de Gredos mountains (Bodega Comando G). For the final wine, we travel with María José to a Spanish wine region that is known for its heroic viticulture, DOCa Priorat. There we try a red wine made with a very special blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Garnacha grapes, from Clos i Terrases winery. Can you guess which wines we’re talking about?
