Spanish wine recently left an impression in Tallinn, Estonia, at the Estonian Sommelier Association 8th Wine Fair. This annual event, which caters to professionals, is the largest trade fair of its kind in the country, and was held on February 7th and 8th. Around 2,500 people attend every year.

This event offered an excellent opportunity for Spanish wineries to promote their products, and their participation was organized by ICEX and the Spanish Embassy’s Economic and Commercial Office in Helsinki. Together they coordinated Spanish wineries and organized two informational seminars/tastings, one on wines from Spain conducted by sommelier and wine instructor Aivar Vipper, and the other on Cava sparkling wine, with the collaboration of Kristjan Markii, organizer of the Estonian Sommelier Association 8th Wine Fair.

At the moment, most wine imports in Estonia come from Spain, France and Italy. Spanish wines are viewed very favorably and held in high regard in Estonia. This situation is mainly attributable to a commitment to promotion by some of Spain’s leading wineries. It’s also worth nothing that Tallinn has, over the years, developed a very varied and quality culinary scene, and many of the top restaurants there offer a selection of outstanding Spanish wines.
