The 13th Annual StarChefs International Chefs Congress will be hosted at the Brooklyn Expo Center from October 21st to the 23rd. This is a major trade event that will welcome over 150 industry leaders from all over the world to talk about this year’s theme: “Cooking with Respect: Better People, Better Food.” Topics that will be discussed include kitchen culture, providing great hospitality and creating a happy workplace, among others. There will be activities and pop-ups, food carts and competitions, and much more.
Spanish cooking and Spanish chefs will be represented at the event in multiple ways. On October 21st, Catalan chef Ramón Freixa, of the popular Michelin-star restaurant Ramón Freixa Madrid, will take over the main stage for a presentation entitled “My Philosophy: Product, Technique and Feeling.” He will offer a culinary reveal and present attendees with “Under a Black Garlic Veil.”
That same day, Alex Raij, from Saint Julivert Fisherie, will give a workshop called “From the Spanish Hearth,” for which she is expected to “bring her encyclopedic knowledge of tapas, traditions and the Spanish culinary diaspora to the red-hot charcoal oven on the Congress patio.”
On the 22nd, chef Oriol Balaguer will take to the main stage to offer a presentation entitled “The Sweet Cuisine,” during which he will “[build] multi-sensory, textually layered desserts that speak to the here, now and future of pastry.” He will be previewing his latest boutique, which is also his seventh.
There will also be a mini gourmet food fair at which several Spanish companies will put their products on display for all to learn about and sample.
