Spain Pavilion Stands Out in Vinexpo New York

On March 4th and 5th, New York’s Jacob Javits Center hosted the Vinexpo NY tradeshow for the second year in a row

 25 Spanish companies from different regions of the country participated in the Wines from Spain Pavilion, organized by ICEX in collaboration with the Trade Commission of Spain in New York. The unbeatable location near the main entrance, was ideal for our wineries and the attendees, making the Spain pavilion one of the busiest.

Vinexpo is an international wine tradeshow that is currently being organized in five different cities around the world: Paris, Bordeaux, Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York. Over the next few years, the NY edition aims to become one of the most important events of the wine sector in the North American wine market.

The 2019 event was visited by nearly 3,500 attendees, including wine sector professionals (retailers, importers, distributors and on-premise buyers) and wine media, mostly from the United States and Canada. In this second edition, a total of 25 Spanish companies participated representing wines from 16 different denominations of origin; including, D.O. Alicante, D.O. Almansa, D.O. Bierzo, D.O. Calatayud, D.O. Cava, D.O. Cigales, D.O. La Mancha, D.O. Montsant, D.O. Ca. Priorat, D.O. Ribeiro, D.O. Ribera del Duero, D.O. Ribera del Guadiana, D.O. Ca. Rioja, D.O. Rueda, D.O. Utiel-Requena and D.O. Valencia, in addition to Brandy de Jerez and organic wines.
Spanish regions of Cariñena, Castilla y León and Castilla La Mancha also had their own spaces, where they presented a range of their local wines.

Spain was also prominently featured in one of the highlight seminars held during the fair. Spanish sommelier and Master of Wine Pedro Ballesteros, led a tasting of mono-varietal Garnacha wines from around the world, as part of the campaign "Cariñena region to watch" of the D.O.P. Cariñena.

In addition, the seminar “Current Trends in the U.S. Wine Market” moderated by the Wine Spectator Executive Editor Thomas Matthews, brought together a panel of 4 renowned importers including Patrick Mata from Ole Obrigado, specialists in Spanish wine.
