Spain holds a wealth of gastronomic history under its belt and is now adding even more innovative value to its curriculum through the emergence of new startups and the transformation from national to global entrepreneurs. We are going way beyond any existing limits we ever thought we had this year.
Glovo led the way, establishing itself as one of the biggest Spanish unicorns in 2020 and mustering over Є450M in support. The company is just one of the Spanish startups storming the industry in the last two years.
Investing in the future of Spanish foodtech
2020 was the year we welcomed the first program specifically focusing on Spanish startups, and the launch of the first ever report exploring Spanish foodtech - to identify the most important segments and the most future cash injected areas welcoming innovative startups like Proppos who recently closed a Є750,000 round led by Banco Sabadell´s Bstartup propelling itself as a European leader in the recognition of food, as well as Cocuus, H2hydropnics, MOA, and Wetechfood.
With 2021 a determining year for foodtech, we are sure to experience a number of important activities in the Spanish food industry including funding, partnerships and the emergence of new startups, establishing it as a hotbed for investor interest and open innovation opportunities in the months to come.
