Spanish startups such as Heura in the plant-based category or Cubiq Foods and Biotech Foods in the cell-based category are making a landmark in the alternative protein ecosystem alongside category pioneers, placing Spain as a nascent ecosystem generating the proper conditions to develop a relevant alternative protein startups ecosystem.
Moreover, other alternative protein categories such as insects and fungi are being taken by Spanish startups such as Tebrio, which recently raised €50 million investment to reach 100K tones of the Tenebrio Molitor worms and therefore becoming a global benchmark in the selecting breeding of functional insects.
