Cristina Forner

The Global Face of Rioja

Cristina Forner (Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher, France, 1953) is not just the face of Marqués de Cáceres; she's the driving force behind its global success. Since taking the helm in 2007, she has transformed the family-owned winery into a modern, internationally recognized brand, all while staying true to its roots in Rioja.

Born in the Loire Valley, France, Cristina grew up surrounded by wine culture. She studied at the Bordeaux School of Business and honed her skills in the wine industry, working at her family's Bordeaux estates, Château Larose Trintaudon and Château Camensac. In 1983, she joined Marqués de Cáceres, focusing on export and international markets. Her strategic vision and leadership have been instrumental in expanding the brand's presence to over 135 countries.

“We’re now present in 120 countries. We are the leading Spanish wine brand in the world. All of this has been the result of in-depth work and a lot of organization.” Cristina Forner to Cinco Días

Under Cristina's leadership, Marqués de Cáceres has embraced innovation and sustainability. The winery has expanded its portfolio to include wines from Rueda, Ribera del Duero, and Rías Baixas, as well as cava from Penedés. In 2023, they introduced a premium extra virgin olive oil, further diversifying their offerings.

Cristina's commitment to quality and excellence has earned Marqués de Cáceres recognition as one of the most influential Rioja brands, according to a 2021 Wine Intelligence survey.

"Wine is culture — it offers simple pleasures, memorable experiences, and knows how to nourish both life and spirit in moderate sips."

Championing Women in Business

In 2019, Cristina was honored with the CaixaBank Women Entrepreneur Award for La Rioja and Aragón, recognizing her leadership and impact in the business world. She views this accolade as a testament to the growing role of women in the economic and social spheres.

With a keen eye on the future, Cristina continues to lead Marqués de Cáceres with a blend of tradition and innovation. Her leadership ensures that the winery remains a beacon of excellence in the global wine industry.
