Spanish Quimet & Quimet, Best Local Food Restaurant in the World

Other Spanish restaurants that made the top 100 include El Xampanyet, Antigua Casa de la Guardia, Casa Montaña and Restaurante Jose María

As part of the TasteAtlas Awards, TasteAtlas has published its official list of the 100 best local food restaurants and food places. Unsurprisingly, there are several restaurants that made the grade but there is one Spanish restaurant that took top honors.

Quimet & Quimet  took first place with 90.2 points to proclaim the title as the Best Local Food Restaurant according to TasteAtlas. This snug and boisterous locale, which opened originally in 1914, serves high-quality tapas and drinks (boasting over 500 bottles of wine) and is always abuzz. As it is one of the most famous and busiest tapas bars in Barcelona, it’s always standing room only.

In 21st place is El Xampanyet, another of Barcelona’s most well-known tapas bars. Known for its homemade cava and excellent range of sparkling wines, this locale also attracts locals and foreigners for its pinchos and tapas. Coming in 24th is the Antigua Casa de Guardia, in Málaga. The city’s oldest and most iconic bar was founded in 1840. It serves an incredible selection of wines, sherries, and vermouths as well as plenty of tapas in a no-nonsense setting where customers gather between barrels.

In 77th place is Casa Montaña is one of Valencia’s most traditional bars. It originally opened its doors in 1836 and has made a name for itself thanks to its cod croquettes, patatas bravas and ajoarriero. Coming in at 90 is Restaurante José María, in Segovia, which is known for its spectacular roast suckling pig. An iconic venue, it originally opened its doors back in 1982 and has been delighting customers with its traditional Segovian cuisine for almost four decades. It also offers a selection of more modern, traditional dishes.

In the 91st spot is La Xampanyeria, in Barcelona, which pays homage to the region’s most famous sparkling wine, cava. Customers can accompany their wine cava with delicious tapas and sandwiches, and this locale is known in particular for its loin and ham sub sandwiches.
