Spain's stone fruit production is set to grow by 6% this year
Spain is forecast to produce 1,514,367 tons of stone fruits by the end of 2026 (peaches, flat peaches, and nectarines), a 6% increase from 2025, according to Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España.
The leading Madrid-based agricultural organization announced its forecast for the 2026 stone fruit exports at Europêch, held in Lleida, Catalonia. An annual European forecasting platform and congress, Europêch coordinates peach, nectarine, and apricot crop predictions among major producer organizations in Spain, Italy, France, and Greece.
The prediction from Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España organization is an impressive 14.16% rise compared with the average of the previous five seasons.
Spain remains the leading stone fruit producer in the European Union ahead of Italy, France, and Greece.

Spain’s stone fruit production is spread across key geographic areas, from warm southern valleys to cooler northern regions.
Andalusia
This southern region features a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and early springs. High temperatures early on in the years means stone fruit harvests often begin in April and May. This enables Andalusian producers to stand out in the early market windows.
Extremadura
Known especially for plums and peaches, Extremadura features a continental Mediterranean climate with hot summers and moderate water availability from the Guadiana basin, supporting massive mid-season yields.
Aragón
The Aragonese landscapes across the Ebro Valley, Zaragoza, and Huesca are characterized by an inland continental Mediterranean climate with cold winters and hot, dry summers. Water from the Ebro and Cinca rivers feeds vast orchards, producing exceptionally sweet, high-quality mid-to-late season peaches, nectarines, and flat peaches.
Catalonia
The northern growing zones of Lleida and the Segre-Ebro basin bring cold winters that provide necessary chill hours, followed by warm summers. Controlled river irrigation ensures high volume and late-season stability through August and September.
Key Export Destinations
Spain accounts for over a quarter of the EU's total peach and nectarine supply. The leading markets are Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Beyond the EU, Spain also exports to countries including Brazil, Canada, Malaysia, and China.
Spain is focusing its new stone fruit export expansion toward Asian and Middle Eastern markets. Spanish stone fruit exports are predicted to see big increases in 2027, with the likes of Japan, South Korea, India, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain as key emerging markets.
