120th Anniversary of the Union of Spanish ‘Toro de Lidia’ Breeders.

Spanish brave cattle gains visibility through an international opinion leader mission in Madrid.

To mark the 120th anniversary of the Real Unión de Criadores de Toros de Lidia (RUCTL), an international trade mission was held in Madrid from May 17 to 20, 2025, aimed at reinforcing the global image of the Spanish ‘toro de lidia’ (fighting bull) and the traditions associated with this emblematic breed.

The participant followed a structured itinerary, which included technical visits to prominent livestock operations and a guided tour of a recognized ‘toro de lidia’ farmer. These encounters enabled in-depth discussions with breeders about challenges in the export market, particularly in relation to Mexico, a country with strong historical and cultural ties to the Spanish bullfighting tradition.

The programme also featured a visit to Las Ventas bullring, including a private tour of its facilities and attendance at a special commemorative bullfight held in celebration of RUCTL’s 120th anniversary. This offered a unique cultural and professional experience within the heart of Madrid’s bullfighting scene.

Further meetings were held with key institutions such as the Fundación Toro de Lidia, RUCTL’s leadership, and representatives from the Spanish Federation of Hunting (RFEC) and the Rural Alliance. These provided opportunities to discuss sectoral strategy, promotional initiatives, and avenues for international cooperation. The participant also took part in RUCTL’s General Assembly, delivering a formal address and attending the official anniversary gala.

This mission combined cultural immersion, strategic dialogue, and sectorial promotion. The presence of a high-profile international opinion leader contributed to amplify the values of the Spanish brave cattle sector abroad, strengthening bilateral relations, and pave the way for future collaboration in export, cultural diplomacy, and agro-livestock development.
