Technology plays an increasingly prominent role in the journey of food from farm to table. In this regard, the food industry is a key player.
The competitiveness of food industry companies is closely linked to their ability to implement the latest technologies. In any case, all members or entrepreneurs of the agrifoodtech sector are part of a community in which they present and share innovations to make a collective contribution to the sector and the planet, creating partnerships and networking to grow and feedback each other.
For the second year in a row the Desafía Foodtech program will take place on the 13-24th of June in the Netherlands. It is organized by ICEX Spain Export and Investment, a program designed to help Spanish startups scale internationally by connecting them with Dutch industry leaders, finding their product-market fit and establish themselves in a new ecosystem, by creating a fruitful collaboration for all parties involved.
For this edition, thirty five start-ups were presented, of which the following eight startups have been selected to participate:
1. Moa
2. Nucaps
3. Baia Foods
4. Ingredalia
5. Mimic Food
6. Bread Free
7. Oscillum
8. Bio2Coat
This program is a two-week immersion into the Dutch ecosystem through a series of networking activities, workshops, company visits, and work and scaling procedures, which will enable companies to come in contact with the main agents and companies in this ecosystem. In addition, companies will learn more about the options offered by this ecosystem to access international markets.
Among European countries, the Netherlands is the leader in terms of alternative protein consumption per capita and has a growing industry in the development of alternatives in the food sector. Due to the financial support of different accelerators, the Netherlands has a very favorable environment for entrepreneurship, which provides a good environment for the emergence of new technological startups.
Back in Spain, the program continues to strengthen the community ties created during the immersion week with consolidation actions in Spain.
Later, Food 4 Future 2022 will be held in Bilbao from May 17 to 19. This event is the international reference forum where food and beverage industry professionals learn about the latest trends, solutions and technologies to optimize and innovate throughout the value chain.
As part of ICEX's participation and collaboration at Food 4 Future, a particular section will be dedicated to promoting Spain Foodtech and the Desafía Foodtech Program in the Netherlands, which will include a networking area for 14 companies that are already members of the Desafía community and an activity stage where attendees can engage with the Spanish ecosystem.
