Spanish Startups Revolutionising The 3 Pillars in the Plant-Based Protein Revolution
It has been two years since Google listed plant-based proteins as the most important trend in technology, noting that the industry is entering a revolution of replacing livestock with plant-based proteins. and not only plant-based but also cell-based, fungi and insect-based.
Spanish startups such as Heura in the plant-based category or Cubiq Foods and Biotech Foods in the cell-based category are making a landmark in the alternative protein ecosystem alongside category pioneers, placing Spain as a nascent ecosystem generating the proper conditions to develop a relevant alternative protein startups ecosystem.
Moreover, other alternative protein categories such as insects and fungi are being taken by Spanish startups such as Tebrio, which recently raised €50 million investment to reach 100K tones of the Tenebrio Molitor worms and therefore becoming a global benchmark in the selecting breeding of functional insects.
