The winners of the Alimentos de España award for Spain’s best wines in 2024 have been announced, recognizing sector’s excellence and dedication to quality.
In the red wine category, the winner was Pago de los Capellanes. Un Sueño en las Alturas 2020, a Ribera del Duero DO wine produced from Tempranillo grape by Pago de los Capellanes in Burgos (Castile-León). This is a red wine that balances fruity intensity and herbal freshness and feels concentrated on the palate.
In the white wine category, Guitián Fermentado en Barrica 2020, a Valdeorras DO wine made from Godello grape in Ourense (Galicia) by Bodega A Tapada took home the honors. This is a wine that is very complex on the nose, with notes of white fruit and wildflowers. It has a fresh and aromatic palate.
The winner in the rosé category was the Ribera del Duero DO wine Salgüero Rosado 2019, produced in Burgos by Pradorey from Tempranillo, Merlot and a touch of Albillo Mayor. It has a sophisticated and complex nose. Feels creamy on the palate with a hint of liqueur.
The winning sparkling wine was Codorniu Ars Collecta Blanc de Noirs Reserva 2019, from Barcelona, in Cava DO wine, made by Codorniu with a blend of Pinot Noir, Xarel·lo and Trepat. This is a wine with delicate bubbles, a nose with floral aromas and red fruits, coming from Pinot Noir, and a free and creamy palate.
