2022 BEST OF SPAIN TOP100@PROWEIN

ICEX/Wines from Spain organizes in cooperation with the reknown editorial house MEININGER VERLAG the contest Best of Spain Top 100@Prowein 2022. This contest is exclusively directed to the wines of the more than 200 exhibitors at the Spanish Pavilion in Hall 13.

The purpose of this contest is to increase the notoriety of Spanish wines at the fair, as well as provide visitors with more guidance in terms of the incredible offering found in the Spanish Pavilion. The competition is broken down into various stages. It begins months before the fair with a blind tasting of the wines registered by the exhibitors for the Official Pavilion.

The blind tasting is carried out by an official jury comprised of independent wine tasters and specialists, including Peer Holm, the president of the German Sommeliers’ Union; Spanish wine specialist David Schwarzwälder; and Christoph Nicklas, a writer for Meininger, the German publishing house specializing in publications for professionals from the wine and drinks sectors, and the executor of the competition. Thanks to this independent and internationally-recognized jury, the list of awarded Spanish wines turns into an initial pre-selection of high-quality Spanish wines.

The awarded wines are classified by price category and type of wine. This system allows visitors to get a quick and concise overview of the Spanish offering at the Official Pavilion, making it easy for them to concentrate their visit on a particular sphere of interest.

The 100 awarded wines are featured before ProWein in four key industry magazines published by Meininger. Three of these are aimed at the German market (Weinwirtschaft, Der Sommelier and FIZZZ), and one of them (Wine Business International) has international reach.

These publications allow people to learn about the awarded wines and their organoleptic characteristics and provide visitors with everything they need to prepare for the fair ahead of time and organize their agendas.

The publications are accompanied by a digital banner and social media campaign before Prowein takes place to provide this information to even more interested professionals of the international wine market.
