This year’s presential fair, Foodex Japan 2021, shows the Spanish importer’s resilience against this and last year’s difficulties, with 18 expositors showcasing their products in an environment full of opportunities.
This year, ICEX participates in the 2021 edition of Foodex Japan with an Official Pavilion composed of 18 companies that show their products implementing all the safety measures demanded by the organization.
Last year, more than 150 companies were expected to participate, but unfortunately the 2020 Foodex fair was canceled. This year, with the Japanese borders closed, these 18 companies present their products with help from their importers, or in some cases with their Spanish representatives that have been living in Japan. Adapting to the current situation to participate in the international fair, they have prepared to present their products from the following categories: Olive Oil & Olives, Wines, Meat products, Sweets & Preserves, Garlic and Other products.
The brand new Spanish Pavilion, more open, modular and visually astonishing, has two different singular spaces: an exhibition area where wine and olive oil seminars are being held, and an “Oil tunnel” exhibition area, with a detailed explanation of the different extra virgin olive oil categories.
The olive oil and wine seminars are being held on the 9th, 10th and 11th of March, with the presentation of the Founder and President of the Japanese Olive Oil Tasters Association (OSAJ), Toshiya Tada, as well as the winner of the Spanish Wine Sommelier Contest 2007 organized by ICEX, Kazuto Sakurai. Every day at 12 PM and 3 PM, they are presenting different products to the assistants, and allow a brief tasting while following the security measures.
ICEX also counts with a special space to show virgin extra olive oil’s properties, the “Spanish Evoo Experience”, with 9 different products and their descriptions, tasting characteristics and recollection process information.
Foodex prepared a separate space where all the international companies can showcase the new products they are bringing this year, and the Spanish exhibition is creating a special interest within the corner’s visitors.
Amongst others, the Spanish company Vidal Golosinas presents new products such as their vegan marshmallows, which use tapioca instead of animal-based gelatin. Other examples of new products presented by Spanish companies are Don Simon’s 200 ml sized bottle of squeezed orange juice with pulp, as well as Columela’s Green Olive Spread.
