Mahou San Miguel, La Sagra, Damm, Cervezas La Virgen, Cervezas 1906, and Dorada Win Gold Medals at the World Beer Awards

Damm’s Daura gluten-free beer and Mahou San Miguel’s 0,0 tostada beer took top honors in their categories, gluten-free and low & no alcohol pale beers, respectively

The winners of the World Beer Awards were announced, and Spain did especially well. Beers from Spain tool home a total of 47 medals from the competition.

In the Best No & Low Alcohol Beer category, Mahou San Miguel’s 0,0 Tostada was selected as the World's Best No & Low Alcohol Pale and 0,0 Manzana took home a gold medal. Silver winners included Mahou San Miguel’s 0,0 Radler and Damm Free Damm beer. Beers like Estrella Galicia 0,0 Negra and Cruzcampo Tremenda, among others, received bronze medals.

In the Best Specialty Beer category, Damm’s Daura Damm received a gold medal as the World’s best gluten-free beer, while Mahou’s San Miguel gluten-free beer took home a silver medal. A bronze medal went to Mahou Cinco Estrellas Sin Gluten.

In the Flavored Beer category, gold winners were La Sagra Radler and Mahou Barrica Bourbon. Silver winners were Cerex Mary Jane, Mahou Cinco Estrellas Radler, and Mahou Barrica Original. Mahou San Miguel Radler won a bronze medal.

In the Best IPA category, Cervezas La Virgen IPA took home a silver medal while Mahou San Miguel Yakima Valley de San Miguel and Mahou Cinco Estrellas Session IPA received bronze medals.

As for the Best Lagers, gold winners were Cerveza La Sagra Premium Lager as well as their Doble Malta, Cervezas La Virgen Madrid Lager, 1906 Red Vintage, 1906 Black Coupage, and Dorada Especial Tostada. The following beers, among others, took home silver medals: Santa Cerveza Amber, Mahou Maestra Dunkel, Mahou Maestra Doble Lúpulo, Mahou Cinco Estrellas, and Tropical 1924. Bronze medal winners included Santa Cerveza Pils, La Salve Lager and La Salve Lucia, and 1906 Reserva Especial.

In the Best Pale Beer category, Cervezas La Virgen and Cervezas La Virgen 360 received a silver medal while 1906 Galician Irish Red Ale got a bronze.

In the Best Stout & Porter category, Cervezas La Virgen Yunque got a gold medal, and in the Best Wheat Beers category, Cervezas La Virgen’s Trigo Limpio took home a silver.

Beer is an important in industry in Spain, with brewers producing 6 billion liters in 2020, and it’s the second-leading producer in Europe. The main brewers in Spain, Mahou, Damm, and Heineken, account for 80% of the total, but there are an increasing number of small craft breweries that are making interesting, popular beers.

These prestigious awards recognize the main beer styles recognized internationally and seek to promote the best beers in the world to consumers and industry professionals. There are a total of 10 categories, such as specialty beer, stout & porter, lagers, and IPA.
