On 16 and 17 June 2024, the Sommelier Campus will take place for the fourth time in a row as a supporting programme to the General Assembly of the German Sommelier Association. This year, the focus will once again be on further training. Wines from Spain in cooperation with Castilla y León is offering on Monday one of a total of six selected masterclasses.
Castilla y León is the largest autonomous region in Spain and its landscape is characterized by snow-covered sierras, vast plateaus, and the legendary Duero River. These extreme contrasts have given rise to a winegrowing culture that is unrivalled. The high-altitude cultivation alone is unparalleled on the European continent, and the abundance of extraordinarily high-quality indigenous varieties and historic vineyards makes Castile and León one of the most important wine-growing centers on our continent.
In this high-class tasting, David Schwarzwälder presents unique parcel wines from historic vineyards from a whole range of renowned protected designations of origin (DOP), all of which are in the Castilla y León region. From Bierzo in the far north-west to Arribes del Duero, Rueda, Cebreros, Toro and Ribera del Duero, as well as selected wines from VdT Castilla y León, we are presenting 10 individual growths, extremely rare wines from autochthonous varieties and altitudes that were planted more than a century ago, some of them ungrafted, and have been cultivated and preserved or revitalized with care and love.
These are the wines of the tasting:
