For the third consecutive year, the Regulatory Board of DO Jerez and Manzanilla de Sanlúcar are putting on International Sherry Week, a global event created to promote the wines of Jerez among Sherry wine lovers around the globe
Sherry Week, which will be held from November 7-13th, is an international celebration that pays tribute to these singular wines made in the south of Spain. For it, thousands of restaurants, bars and wine shops in more than 25 different countries will be hosting tastings and offering special wine pairing menus, in addition to offering a range of other events related to the wines of Jerez – all geared to show the perfection with which these wines pair with all different types of international cuisines.
“Sherry Week is a great opportunity to share the incredible versatility of our wines with our consumers through cocktail competitions with Sherry wines, wine pairing menus, tapas, seminars, classes and a specific training program”, states César Saldaña, the President of the Regulatory Board of Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and Manzanilla Sanlúcar de Barrameda denominations of origin.
According to Saldaña, one of the keys to this event is the creation of professional networks that collaborate in the dissemination of these incredibly emblematic wines. “Wine and gastronomy professionals will be able to promote the excellent characteristics of Sherry among fans of these products, regardless of whether they are beginners or experts. By fostering their initiatives, we not only forge connections between Sherry wine lovers – wherever they are –, but we also support our collaborators”.
Sherry wines all around the world
One of the international events taking place during Sherry Week will be an attempt in Mexico to beat the world record for the largest number of people participating in a wine tasting (the current record is 5,095 people). Thousands of miles away in China, simultaneous tasting events will be held in 10 different cities.
Japan, one of the countries most in love with Sherry wines, will delight Sherry fans with hundreds of events in its numerous Sherry bars. Additionally, the prestigious wine-food pairing gastronomic competition known as the “Copa Jerez”, will be held during this time in Spain and Denmark.
For its part, Jerez de la Frontera will offer a range of activities that include streamed tastings of very exclusive wines on Twitter, theatrical performances in wineries, parties for young people in vineyards, and many other surprising initiatives that will be revealed on the digital platform sherryweek.wine.
Last year, International Sherry Week boasted more than 2,000 events in 25 countries all over the world. While China participated for the very first time with close to 200 activities, the United Kingdom and the United States both doubled the number of related events with respect to the previous year. For this edition, two artists from Jerez designed the map of Sherry Week events, while the previous years' editions were designed by artists from the United States and Australia
This new map of the “Sherry World” provides an artistic interpretation of the history of wines from Jerez, featuring iconic scenes, symbols and images of those who love these wines. Sherry Week has been recognized with two important awards for its innovative nature and excellent development of social networks for marketing purposes from the Drinks International Wine Marketing Awards and the Drinks Business Awards, the most important publications in the international wine world.
Social networks will also play an important role in publicizing all of the activities scheduled to take place during International Sherry Week, and Sherry lovers can share content using the hashtag #sherryweek.
