Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas 2017 Wins International Revelation White Wine at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

Spain also receive the highest number of Grand Gold medals at the international wine competition, 19 in total

The 2022 edition of the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles wine competition in Belgium has come to a close and the medal winners have been selected. The objective of this event is to identify wines from all over the world of “irreproachable quality offering a truly pleasurable drinking experience.”

Spain performed spectacularly at the event, taking home the highest number of Grand Gold medals, 19 in total. This is an incredible achievement as it’s the highest accolade at the event and is only awarded to 1% of participants. This included wines like 7 Cepas 2017, by Grupo Solar de Samaniego; Ramón Bilbao Reserva 2016, by Zamora Company Global SLU; and Uvio C 2019, by Bodegas Contreras SL.
The “international revelation white wine” at the entire competition was an Albariño from Spain: Mar de Frades Finca Valiñas 2017, made from Rara Neagra and Feteasca Neagra grapes.

Overall, Spain ranked second in terms of total medals, with 433. The bulk went to wines from Castille-León, Rioja, and Valencia. Among the gold medal winners, of which there were 176, there was Torre Oria Gran Seleccion 2016, by Torre Oria SL; Finca Matambres 2017, by Bodegas y Viñedos Monteabellon SL; Alto Moncayo Veraton 2019, by Bodegas Alto Moncayo; and Veigaares 2018, by Viñas e Adegas Galegas.

There were 306 silver medal winners. This included Charlatán 2021, by Bodegas César Príncipe SL; Lalomba Finca Valhonta 2018, by Zamora Company Global SLU; and El Linze 2020, by Selección Lucendo SL, among many, many others. The competition is recognized by both consumers and the wine industry around the globe and has become a benchmark among international wine competitions. A total of 7,300 wines competed, from almost 40 countries, and were assessed by a panel of experts.
