Hosted Buyers Tour Spain For Firsthand Food Experiences Following Alimentaria 2026

The international food and beverage trade fair Alimentaria 2026 took place in Barcelona from March 23 to 26, bringing together key players from the global agrifood industry. As part of the event, Foods and Wines from Spain and Alimentos de España, as part of the Spain Food Nation campaign, have once again organized their Hosted Buyers Program, one of the fair’s flagship internationalization initiatives.

This year’s edition welcomed around 80 international guests from more than 40 countries, selected in close collaboration with the Economic and Commercial Offices of Spain abroad. Participants include importers and distributors of Spanish food products, as well as representatives of Restaurants from Spain-certified establishments and Colmados from Spain specialty stores. All attendees come to Alimentaria with a clear objective: to explore new business opportunities and establish partnerships with Spanish companies exhibiting at the fair.

Throughout the event, the Hosted Buyers were engaged in B2B meetings, tailored networking activities, and sector-specific programs designed to showcase the breadth and excellence of Spain’s agrifood offer.

Seven Post-Fair Trips Across Spain

Following Alimentaria 2026, ICEX led an extensive post-fair agenda featuring seven different regional trips. These itineraries enable international guests to experience first-hand the diversity, innovation, and quality of Spain’s food industry.

Participants travelled to Andalusia, Aragón, La Rioja, Castille-León, and the province of Granada, where they visited production facilities, met local producers, and discovered protected designations of origin and a wide portfolio of Spanish food products.

Andalusia

Twelve buyers from a variety of continents traveled to Andalusia during a trip organized by Andalucia Trade.

The program featured visits to leading producers, including Hacienda Guzmán (olive oils), Inés Rosales (handmade olive oil tortas), JOLCA (table olives), Pesasur (seafood preserves), and Salinas del Alemán (artisanal sea salt). Throughout the mission, participants explored the region’s commitment to quality, tradition, and innovation. Seville and Cádiz provided an exceptional setting for strengthening commercial ties and opening new market opportunities.

Aragón

A group of ten buyers and HoReCa representatives from Asia, America, and Europe visited Aragón for a deep dive into one of Spain’s most diverse gastronomic regions.

The program began with participants traveling from Barcelona to Zaragoza, where they visited the city’s historic center—including the Basílica del Pilar and La Seo Cathedral—before enjoying a gourmet dinner at the renowned Restaurante Montal.

The next day, the delegation headed to Teruel, discovering the world of premium black truffles at MyTruff, followed by a tasting session and a potential truffle harvesting experience. The group later visited AireSano (Naturuel), a benchmark producer of PDO Jamón de Teruel, and enjoyed a guided tour of Teruel’s Mudejar heritage before dinner at Yain Restaurant. The journey continued with a visit to Pastelerías Manuel Segura in Daroca and an afternoon stop at Mr. Brownie (Magdalenas Lázaro), showcasing Aragón’s excellence in both traditional and modern confectionery. The day concluded with a tapas experience in Zaragoza’s famous El Tubo district.

Castilla y León

Six importers from Asia and America traveled from Barcelona to Castille-León to discover the excellence, innovation, and heritage that define the region’s agrifood sector.

On their first night in Segovia, they enjoyed a traditional dinner featuring the region’s iconic Cochinillo de Segovia—a world-renowned culinary symbol of tenderness, crispness, and centuries-old craftsmanship.

The following day, the delegation visited some of Segovia’s flagship producers: Montenevado, home to the innovative “Campus del Jamón,” where attendees explored state-of-the-art facilities and tasted premium cured ham; Cárnicas Tabladillo, specialists in Segovia’s celebrated suckling pig, combining tradition and innovation to bring this local gem to global markets; El Gran Cardenal, a benchmark cheese producer, showcasing the strong cheesemaking tradition of Castille-León, the largest producer of sheep’s milk in Spain. The day concluded in Valladolid, with dinner at Trasto Restaurant.

The next day, the group explored the diversity of the region’s agrifood sector, visiting Pago de Valdecuevas, a leading olive oil mill in Medina de Rioseco; Selectos de Castilla, renowned for gourmet duck products served in top restaurants worldwide; and Grupo Cascajares, a success story in premium ready to eat dishes, famous for having one of its products chosen for the 2004 Spanish royal wedding banquet. The experience ended with a tapas dinner at Valladolid’s iconic Los Zagales, celebrating the city’s leadership in Spain’s tapas and pinchos tradition.

La Rioja

International buyers from China, the United States, Hungary, Japan, Serbia, and Vietnam visited Rioja with a trip organized by the Federación de Empresas de La Rioja.

The itinerary featured technical visits and tastings at leading producers—Conservas Juker, Conservas Emperatriz, Almazara Riojana, Almazara Ecológica ISUL, Dulces El Avión, Pafritas, Lácteos Martínez, and a winery in Haro—alongside networking meals and pinchos tours in Logroño. The buyers tasted some of the most iconic products from Rioja during the experience. These included artisanal vegetable preserves, sauces, and condiments designed for retail and foodservice, fish and seafood cans, single estate EVOOs, certified organic EVOOs, toffees, marzipan, and chocolate-coated fruits, slow-fried potato chips in 100% Spanish Virgin Olive Oil, and cheeses with varied ripening profiles.

Province of Granada

A group of five buyers and HoReCa representatives from Europe travelled to Granada, in a trip organized by the Granada Chamber of Commerce.

The delegation visited Mercagranada, the city’s major wholesale and logistics hub, followed by tours of Aceites Maeva, a historic producer of premium extra virgin olive oil, and Industrias Espadafor, a renowned specialist in non-alcoholic beverages and syrups. The day concluded with dinner at La Cueva de 1900.

The following day, buyers explored the artisanal world of Conservas Rufino, known for traditional jams and vegetable preserves, before heading to La Palma Group, the world’s largest cherry tomato producer and a benchmark for sustainable innovation in horticulture. The visit included an exclusive tasting menu showcasing their award-winning produce. The day ended with an unforgettable visit to the Alhambra and a flamenco show at El Templo del Flamenco.

Meat sector

In addition to the regional visits, a dedicated group of professionals from the meat sector took part in tours organized by the interprofessional associations Avianza (Spanish Interprofessional Association of Poultry Meat) and Provacuno (Inter-professional Organization of the Spanish Beef Industry). These itineraries included technical visits, product presentations, and immersive culinary experiences designed to deepen participants’ knowledge of the Spanish poultry and beef sectors.

A group of four buyers from Europe and the Middle East visited the Catalonia region with Avianza. The program began in Tortosa (Tarragona) with a dinner and briefing, followed by a technical visit to the farm, headquarters, and processing plant at Padesa. The mission concluded with buyers enjoying free time to explore Barcelona.

Provacuno

Hosted buyers from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East headed to Aragón, Catalonia, and Madrid during the trip organised by Provacuno.

The trip began in Lleida with a visit to a livestock farm in Montgai for an in-depth look at production processes at Fribin in Binéfar—one of Spain’s benchmark facilities for high-quality beef. Back in Madrid, the group visited Mercamadrid’s Meat Central Market, where they attended a Spanish beef presentation and visited Encinar de Humienta, a company that focuses on beef cattle, from the live cattle supply through the slaughter, cutting and commercialization phases. A retail visit to Alcampo completed the program.
