Dabiz Muñoz Named World’s Best Chef for 2nd Year in a Row

The chef leads the ranking of the world’s 100 best chefs, but another 15 chefs and teams of chefs from Spain also made the grade

The Best Chef Awards, now in their 6^th edition, were recently held in Madrid. As a result of this prestigious international event, there is now a new classification of the world’s 100 best chefs—a list which includes many Spaniards.

For the second year in a row, Dabiz Muñoz (DiverXO), ranked number one. He was chosen for his “personal” and “unpredictable” cuisine, which enters its “own dreamlike universe that impregnates each visit with the emotion of a game of Russian roulette.”

Other Spaniards on the list included Joan Roca (3^rd place), Andoni Luis Aduriz (5^th), the trio behind Disfrutar restaurant (7^th), Ángel León (13^th), Eneko Atxa (18^th), Bittor Arguinzoniz (19^th), Quique Dacosta (33^rd), Paco Roncero (36^th), Diego Guerrero (38^th), Javier and Sergio Torres (41^st), Martín Berasategui (42^nd), Paco Morales (43^rd), Dani Garcia (56^th), Paco Pérez (87^th), and Martina Puigvert and Fina Puigdevall (96^th).

There were also 12 special distinctions handed out at the award ceremony. This included the Best Chef Voted by Professionals Award powered by Glovo, and the Best Chef City Gourmet Award powered by Correos, both of which went to Muñoz. The Best Chef Science Award powered by Madrid’s Academy of Gastronomy went to Andoni Luis Aduriz (Mugaritz).

The classification is determined based on the votes and opinions of 350 people.
