A singular holiday in China is driving a boom in ham sales. Singles’ Day is actually an unofficial holiday in China that celebrates people who aren’t in relationships.

As part of this celebration, people spend money. In fact, the holiday has become the biggest physical retail and online shopping day in the world, and those habits have impacted leading ham producer Cinco Jotas. This year, new records were set on Alibaba platforms. A wide range of national and international brands participated, including Osborne, which has two online stores, one for hams and pork products and the other for wine.

According to elespañol.com, the company’s general manager has confirmed that sales relating to this event increased by an impressive 66%. In particular, their bone-in ham was the most popular product and can sell for up to 1,200 euros. It was followed by sliced ham. The company only recently received authorization to export its ham legs and cold cuts to China at the end of 2019.

Osborne has been operating in the country since 2015, since which time it has been focused on having an online presence via an ecommerce store.
