Spanish App 'Encantado de Comerte' Among UN’s 50 Best Small Businesses for Food Sustainability

The winners of the competition are recognized for their contributions and solutions to help improve access to healthy food

The team behind the Spanish app Encantado de Comerte (Nice to Eat You) is indubitably celebrating being chosen by the United Nations as one of the 50 winners in its Best Small Business: Good Food for All competition. The goal was to find the very best SMEs around the world that are “transforming food systems for a better tomorrow… and leading the charge for more sustainable, inclusive and resilient food systems.” It’s being organized as part of the UN Food Systems Summit, which will be held at the end of September in New York and the winners get a share of the $100,000 prize money.

The Spanish B2B2C app aims to ensure safe and nutritious food for everyone and lets users buy food that local stores have not sold before the end of their useful life, at a discounted price. Users can make their purchases through the app and then pick up the food the same day at the store. What makes this app stand out in particular is its potential use for social projects and NGOs to help families and people in need. It allows them to help disadvantaged families get access to food from local stores using digital coupons, eliminating some of the stigma around asking for food. The winners were chosen from around 2,000 applications from 135 different countries.
