José Andrés is Appointed to President’s Nutrition Council and Prepares Food for Outer Space

Andrés is busy lately, receiving a prestigious appointment from President Biden and prepping Spanish cuisine for astronauts at the International Space Station

Chef José Andrés is in the news again for several reasons. Most recently, US President Joe Biden appointed him to be the co-chair of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. The goal of the council is to help promote exercise and healthy eating habits across the country, regardless of people's socio-economic class and their abilities. Previous chairs have been fitness professionals, doctors, and athletes.

The members of the committee worked together to dance information and understanding of Fitness and Nutrition recommendations. They also work on creating and promoting programs that encourage Americans, regardless of age, to get and stay healthy. Said Andrés about this new position," I'm excited to get to work putting nutrition at the heart of creating a healthy, prosperous, and more equitable future for America and the world, where food brings us together to build #longertables," according to his Twitter account.

The chef's other new project is completely out of this world. He will be sending his dishes, such as paella, among others, to the International Space Station (ISS), thanks to a partnership with Axiom Space. The food will be sent as part of the launch, scheduled for April. Andrés will be creating "exceptional Spanish cuisine with bold flavors," according to foodandwine.com, in line with NASA guidelines. Specifically, he will be preparing secreto Ibérico with pisto, chicken and mushroom paella, and Spanish jamón and salchichón. Although the astronauts won't be eating from the same large pan, they will all be eating together.
