Spanish Oils Set a New Record at the NYIOOC with 128 Awards
Spanish oils stole the show at the New York International Olive Oil Competition, with a notable 77% success rate
Spanish olive oils have outdone themselves with a fantastic performance at the New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC). This is the largest competition of its kind in the world and Spain didn’t disappoint, taking home 128 awards with a 77% success rate.
The bulk of the awards went to producers in Andalusia, but producers from Extremadura, Castile-La Mancha, and Catalonia also won numerous distinctions.
These outstanding results are particularly noteworthy given the challenges producers faced in 2021, such as drought and rising production costs.
From Picual and Hijoblanca to Cornicabra and Arbequina, the countries wide varieties of olives and oils got the recognition they deserve.
Said Rafael Pico Lapuente, “These international awards make it possible for consumers to value our olive oils due to the prestige that this entails. Spain exports 70% of what it produces and these awards spread the word of the benefits and qualities of Spanish olive oil.”
Gold award winners included La Roza Alta, from La Roza Alta SL; Marqués de Valdueza, by Marqués de Valdueza; and Dominus Cosecha Temprana, by Monva SL. Silver award winners included Vida Buena, by Vida Buena International; Fontclara by Zanotelli, SL; Quaryat Blend, by Quaryat Diller; and Herriza de la Lobilla, by Oleico Pallares.
