5 EVOOs From Spain Among EVOOLEUM Guide’s Top 10 in the World

In total, 61 extra virgin olive oils from Spain were included in this prestigious and influential guide’s best 100 oils in the world

The 8th edition of the EVOOLEUM guide’s World's TOP100 Extra Virgin Olive Oils has been released and, as usual, many Spanish oils are among the world’s best.

This extensive guide features the 100 olive oils that performed the best at the EVOOLEUM Awards, oils from multiple countries including Italy, Greece, Israel, China, Portugal, and Tunisia. It’s also an incredibly influential publication among chefs, importers, and distributors from Spain and around the world.

In the top 10 alone, half of the extra virgin olive oils were from Spain. They were Campos de Biatia La Dama Íbera Edición Limitada, a Picual oil from Jaén, rated the second best in the world; Al Alma del Olivo Hojiblanca Ecológico, an Hojiblanca oil from Toledo, in 3rd place; Mas Montseny Premium Coratina, made with Coratina olives in Tarragona, ranking 5th; Supremo Royal, from Royal olives in Jaén, 6th; and Pagos de Toral Selección Gourmet, a Picual oil from Jaén, 10th.

In total, 61 extra virgin olive oils from Spain appeared in the top 100, and beyond that, Spain’s skill and fame in this sector was apparent elsewhere in the guide. The book’s prologue was written by Spanish chef Angel León, who runs Aponiente, and the trio of chefs behind Disfrutar, Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casañas.

Spain is a world-renowned EVOO producer with a very wide variety of oils. It’s home to more than a dozen PDOs and PGIs, from Aceite de La Rioja and Aceite de Campo de Calatrava to Antequera and Baena, as well as a wide range of different types of olives. This includes Picual, Cornicabra, Hojiblanca, and Arbequina.
