ECOFOOD 3S consortium is born to transform the agri-food sector

ECOFOOD 3S is a strategic project for economic recovery and transformation, which involves an investment of €200 million

AZTI, a scientific and technological center in the Basque Country, Spain, aims to strengthen and unite the entire Spanish agri-food ecosystem to drive sustainable growth, generate economic activity, attract and create quality employment, and contribute to the achievement of a modern and quality food industry through the creation of ECOFOOD 3S, a project for economic recovery and transformation. Also, Ecofood 3S intends to raise funding from the European Next Generation program, designed to achieve a safe, sustainable and healthy agri-food ecosystem.

Thirty-two agents from different activities and subsectors of the food chain in Spain, from companies, technology centers to research centers, have joined forces to develop the project. Among the participating companies are: Angulas Aguinaga, Ausolan, AB Azucarera Iberia, Balfegó, Barna, Biosasun, Bolton Food, Sálica Industria Alimentaria, Covap, Eroski, Frías Nutrición, Jorge Pork Meat, Hijo de José Martínez Somalo, Sinalcohol, Natural Crunch, Calidad Pascual, Paturpat, Industrias Lácteas Asturianas, Udapa, Yuit, Buhler, Dibal, Hazi, Hiperbaric, Krean S Coop, Neiker, Plastigaur, Sidenhol, Tekniker and Versia.

ECOFOOD 3S seeks to align itself with the European Farm to Fork strategy, included in the European Commission's Green Pact with the mission of generating a fairer, healthier and more environmentally friendly food system.

Among the main challenges of this poject are to reduce the environmental impact of all the companies in the consortium, promote greater transparency in traceability and food safety, modernize the digitization processes of companies and their value chains.

Projects such as these are committed to the transformation of the sector, from the point of view of sustainability as well as digitization, improving the competitiveness of the value chain.
