Two Spanish Companies, Levprot Bioscience and Let it V, Awarded at Plant-Based World Expo - Europe 2024

While the first won the award in the Innovative Ingredient category, the second took home prizes for Meat Alternative and the Best of 2024 at the expo

The Spanish Foodtech sector continues to demonstrate its global leadership, as highlighted by the accolades received at various industry events, including the Plant-Based World Expo - Europe 2024, held in London, the only 100% plant-based event for trade professionals, including retailers, foodservice providers, hospitality sectors, distributors, manufacturers, and investors.

There, two Spanish Foodtech companies garnered three awards. Levprot Bioscience was recognized in the Innovative Ingredient category for Brazzein, a highly water-soluble, low molecular weight sweet protein naturally found in the fruit of the West African plant Pentadiplandra brazzeana. Known as the ultimate sugar alternative, Brazzein is 1,600 times sweeter than sugar, enabling the development of lower-calorie food products. “Brazzein is a testament to what we believe are the challenges we must face in the Foodtech industry. Thank you to Plant-Based World Expo and all our partners who have supported us along the way. Cheers to 1,600 times sweeter than sugar new horizons!” said company representatives.

Meanwhile, Let it V won in the Meat Alternative category for its plant-based bacon, Veikon, which mimics pork using ingredients like potato starch and pea protein. It is rich in iron and vitamin B12, allergen-free, and gluten-free. In addition, Let it V also received the Best in Show award. Exhibiting at the event for the first time, CEO Jorge Osés Labadie commented: “It’s been two years of adventure. We are aiming to make the best bacon in the world, regardless of whether it’s from plants or pigs. Our next step is raising money and going clean label, so this win is very helpful for us.”
