El Gaitero won big at this prestigious competition, with five of its ciders taking home silver and bronze medals
The 11th edition of the International Cider Challenge (ICC), held in the UK each year, recently came to an end after shining a light on the very best ciders from around the world. As the most respected and authoritative competition of its kind, the ICC evaluates, rates and awards ciders from every corner of the globe.
Grupo El Gaitero, based in Asturias, saw several of its ciders take home distinctions. The company’s Spring Cider (apple+grape) took home a silver medal and its Spring Cider (apple) received a bronze medal. It’s worth noting that these drinks have only been on the market for two months. These low alcohol ciders are fresh and light and are the perfect options for an afternoon of tapas and socializing.
El Gaitero Extra also received a silver medal and is considered one of the company’s most iconic ciders, made using Asturian apples. It pairs perfectly with desserts. Pomarina Brut is a sophisticated “natural” sparkling cider that took home a silver medal. It pairs very well with fish and seafood and should be sipped and savored. El Gaitero Natural, distinguished with a bronze medal, is made using traditional methods, which results in a dry, high-alcohol cider. Last but not least is another silver medal winner, 1898, a sweet cider made from frozen apples that tastes most delicious when enjoyed with cheese, foie gras and fruity desserts.
