Oro Bailén Picual, an extra virgin olive oil made in Jaén, received several accolades, among them Best Picual Oil, Best from Spain, and Best Monovarietal
EVOOLEUM’s official 2020 guide to the world’s 100 best extra virgin olive oils has hit the streets, and Spanish oils absolutely dominated the list. Of the 100 oils included in this prestigious guide, 81 are from Spain. Italy trails far behind with 12, Portugal with 4, Croatia with 2, and Slovenia with 1.
Far and away the most lauded oil was Oro Bailén Picual, which received a score of 95 out of 100 possible points. It was named the “Absolute Best,” “Best Monovarietal,” “Best Green Fruity Oil,” “Best Picual Oil,” and “Best from Spain.” What’s more, it offers excellent value for money.
This spectacular, balanced oil has aromas of apple, unripe banana, and citrus fruit; notes of tomatoes, endives and lamb’s lettuce; and nuances of thyme, lemon tree and mint.
Other oils that stand out in the guide include AlbaOliva Bio, an organic option considered the “Best Mixed Oil.” It has flavors of banana, apple, almond and tomato. Prólogo has an intense, fruity flavor reminiscent of freshly cut grass, green apple, and banana peel. Fidelco Gold is another option. This Arbequina oil has a touch of apple, banana and almond as well as tomato, artichoke and green pepper.
Other winners included 1948 Oleum AOVE Premium Organic Picual, Cladivm, El Santuario de Mágina, Fuente Ribera, Knolive Epicure, Livesolives Bio, Maquiz Picual, Morellana Hojiblanca, Oleícola Jaen AOVE Picual, Olibaeza, Puerta de las Villas, Rincón de la Subbética, and Valdenvero Hojiblanco, among others.
