This Protected Designation of Origin is one of the highest distinctions regulated by law and is a testament to its highly unique wines

Spanish winery Abadía Retuerta is celebrating a major achievement: obtaining a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for its estate wines, or vinos de pago. The registration process is lengthy and has now been ratified in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Achieving this PDO, which is the highest distinctions regulated by wine laws, essentially confirms that the winery’s soils are unique and worthy of distinction. As a result, their wine offers an authentic expression of the terroir, perfectly capturing the area’s climate and geography and their impact on the grapes and, therefore, their wine.

It comprises 54 different plots, managed by a team of experts that uses a minimal intervention approach. This yields a large selection of exquisite wines. The bodega is committed to adapting to climate change by introducing new varieties of grapes and experimenting with production techniques.
