The wine Valdeliceda 2020, by Bodegas del Nero, winner of the Carlos Falco 2023 award.

The best wine overall and the best red, white and rosé wines from the Madrid region were all awarded at the ceremony

The Carlos Falcó Vinos de Madrid Awards were held on June 28th in the capital at Hotel Emperador. The ceremony was attended by around 100 wine experts as well as representatives from the 24 different participating wineries.

The awards are organized by the DO Vinos de Madrid Regulatory Council and are named after Carlos Falcó, who worked tirelessly to support Spain’s winemaking industry.

Valdeliceda 2020, by Bodegas del Nero, received the prestigious Carlos Falcó, Vinos de Madrid Award as the very best wine in the Madrid region, with 99 out of a possible 100 points. The best white wine award went to Señorío Zafra Blanco Barrica, by Bodegas Figueroa, and the best rosé went to Puerta de Alcalá Rosado, by Vinos Jeromín. It was a close race among red wines, but Valautín Garnacha, by Ca´Di Mat (Viñadores de Valdeiglesias), took home the coveted distinction.

There were several gold and silver Carlos Falcó honorary certificate winners, among them Los Peros Albillo 2021, Pureza 2022, and Viña Chozo Blanco 2021 (all gold winners), and Castillo de Salvanés Blanco 2022, Entre Silencio Blanco 2022, and A3 Albillo 2022 (all silver winners).

The winning wines were chosen by a committee of professional wine tasters. The objective of this competition is to promote DO Madrid wines and raise their profile as a quality option for consumers.
