Alabama native and San Sebastián-based chef and food writer Marti Buckley is presenting Basque Country, her first cookbook and one that examines the history, traditions and most-treasured recipes of the Basque region of Spain – an area that, in the words of the author, “not only boasts more Michelin-starred restaurants per capita than any other region in the world, but (whose) unique confluence of mountain and sea, values and tradition, informs every bite of its soulful cuisine, from pintxos to the elbows-on-the-table meals served in its legendary eating clubs.”
With a forward by famed Basque chef Bittor Arginzoniz of Asador Etxebarri, this book is already generating buzz among Spanish food lovers near and far.
In anticipation of its September 4th release date, acclaimed Spanish chef José Andrés has remarked: “Marti is an Alabama girl with the heart of a Basque. Her book takes you inside the homes, bars, restaurants, and even the txokos (the private dining clubs) of Basque Country in a way that Americans have never seen before. This is truly insider access, an authentic look at the traditions of one of the most incredible culinary regions of the world".
