Brain & Wine International Forum

Renowned Spanish sommelier Ferran Centelles of elBullifoundation will be among those in attendance at this unique conference, held this March 12 in Barcelona.

 

Neuroscience and wine drinking might not be the first two concepts that people associate with one another, but there is no doubt that when you put them together, the results will be fascinating. In any case, we will have to wait until the international forum Brain & Wine takes place next week to find out.

This intriguing event will bring together sommeliers, enologists, neuroscientists and other experts from a variety of fields – such as philosophers and musicologists – to discuss a range of questions having to do with the way we perceive different aspects of wine, and how those perceptions and even outside influences can affect the way that we enjoy it.

This will be the first edition of this absolutely singular event; an initiative promoted by – in addition to Ferran Centelles – neuroscientist Daniel Low of the INECO (neuroscience) Foundation in Argentina, Bruno Mesz of the Science and Technology Department of the Universidad de Tres de Febrero in Argentina, and experimental psychologists Qian Janice Wang and Charles Spence of Oxford University, in collaboration with Spanish wine group Codorníu Raventós.

The one-day conference will unfold as a series of symposiums, talks, tastings, interactive installations, technological innovations and scientific experiments involving wine, with the goal of taking enology one step further and analyzing perceptions of wine on a multi-tiered, scientific level.
