New Tapas and Paella Restaurant Opens its Doors in Rockville, Maryland

Tapas expert George Rodrigues just opened El Mercat Bar De Tapas with a delicious menu featuring vegetarian, meat, and seafood dishes

Tapas and rice fans in Maryland, USA are in for a tasty treat: Chef George Rodrigues, who originally hails from Brazil but it is a true master of tapas, just opened up a new locale called El Mercat Bar De Tapas. 
Rodrigues is something of a legend on Rockville’s dining scene and boasts an impressive track record that includes the role of chef de cuisine at Boqueria, in Washington, DC's Penn Quarter neighborhood.


Tickets cost $75 per person and include an extensive menu with vegetables, meat, and seafood tapas as well as paella, dessert, and red or white wine or sangria.
Menu highlights include dishes like homemade chorizo txistorra with a green sauce, lamb meatballs with tomato sauce and Manchego cheese, ham croquettes with membrillo, Spanish omelette with saffron alioli, calçots with romescogarlic shrimp, and cod fritters. Their special happy hour menu is sure to attract a large crowd. He has also perfected his paella, serving options such as chorizo and chicken, and also seafood.
 For dessert, customers can tuck into churros with caramel or chocolate sauce, Basque cheesecake, and many other delicious creations.

The drinks menu features red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines that extend across Spain's many designations of origin, from Cava DO and Ribera del Duero DO to Jumilla DO. They also serve sherries, a wide selection of beer, and house cocktails.
This sophisticated restaurant is expected to be very popular with the locals and aims to bring a little slice of Spain to Rockville. Rodrigues has big plans for the future, which include leading paella as well as Spanish wine classes on site and adding a patio when spring arrives.
