La Casera, the Spanish Traditional Soda, Turns 75 Years Old

This staple on Spanish tables has been accompanying meals and snacks for three-quarters of a century

La Casera is celebrating: it turns 75 years old. 100% Spanish, this soda was born in 1949, thanks to the entrepreneurial vision of its creator, Félix Duffo, whose intention was "to create a soft and pleasant drink, transparent and natural, with a familiar taste for most Spaniards and that could be consumed alone or mixed, in the big and small moments of everyday life." This philosophy, which has been maintained for 75 years, already anticipated the demands of today's public and its commitment to versatility and conscious consumption. Sugar-free, calorie-free, and caffeine-free,

La Casera is today one of the ten best-selling beverage brands in Spain and is also a drink that has crossed borders. There is an advertising phrase that has become extremely popular: "If there is no La Casera, we leave," referring to the idea that a Spanish family cannot eat if there is no bottle of this soda on the table.

One of the keys to La Casera's longevity has been its versatile consumption. Although it can be enjoyed as a soda, on its own, with just an ice cube and a slice of lemon, it has also been a basic ingredient, combined with wine, for the tinto de verano, a popular drink mostly consumed in summer.

Currently, in addition to soda, La Casera also markets flavored soft drinks with mint, lemon, cola, or apple. Moreover, it offers several low-alcohol beverages with its iconic soda as a base, including pre-mixed tinto de verano or aperitifs with cider, vermouth, or Verdejo wine. There are also zero-alcohol versions of the tinto de verano.

A benchmark in sustainability

Although it is a brand with a long tradition, La Casera also makes an important commitment to sustainability. The company has a project for water conservation, aiming to improve the quantity and quality of the waters of the Guajaraz reservoir, one of the three reservoirs supplying water to its factory in Toledo (Castile-La Mancha). Additionally, it aims to make all its packaging 100% sustainable by 2030, meaning it will be 100% recyclable and recycled.

The queen of the Spanish summer also crosses borders. It can be found in European countries such as Italy and the United Kingdom, where the bottles serve as unique "Proustian madeleines" for Spanish expatriates and as a discovery for newcomers. As another famous slogan for this drink says: "La Casera, what an invention!".
