The tortilla dilemma: eleven years ago, after Spanish-German actor Daniel Brühl couldn't find a satisfactory tortilla in Berlin, he opened a tapas bar with his partner Atilano Gonzalez to dedicate himself to this task. In the meantime, there is a lot more on the menu at Bar Raval: traditional classics like pimientos de padrón and gambas al ajillo, a contemporary selection of vegetarian and vegan tapas, and modern interpretations like flank steak with chimichurri, caramelised peppers and sweet potato foam.
Without much explanation or instruction, the spirit of local Spanish cuisine is brought to the guest. Every now and then it may have to be explained that a tortilla is only prepared bone-dry in the mass-produced tourist kitchen, but not in the Bar Raval. The motto: nothing is necessarily how it "should be", but everything is just right to make it fun.
