Rioja DOCa Launches Series on YouTube Documenting the Wine Production Process

The Rioja DOCa regulatory council has a clever new project underway that’s bringing the region and its winemakers into consumers’ living rooms.

It has launched a short docuseries entitled The Heart of Harvest, which coincides with this year’s harvest, for which 15 million kilos of grapes are already waiting in the designation of origin’s wineries.

The series comprises five episodes, each one focusing on the different people and events involved in the process: the grower, the picker, the winemaker, the regulatory council, and the grape harvest. Over 30 representatives from the DO took part in the filming to give a solid overview of Rioja’s immense wealth and diversity.

A unique aspect of the series is that each episode is shown just a few hours after taping has finished with a view to sharing winemaking events and processes “in real time.”

The project is being filmed by Sean Blixseth and his team from the US, and the episodes can be seen on La Rioja’s YouTube channel. Blixseth said the following about his experience: “It’s wonderful to see how this unique region is influenced and focused on, directly and indirectly, a common passion, which is to make the best wine in the world.
