Off the Beaten Track: Spain’s viticultural scene couldn’t be more thrilling!

Spain is a territory with an enormous diversity of regions and a great wealth of indigenous varieties that give life to a wide range of wine styles. It is entering the fine wines league by crafting unique terroir-driven wines that can stand face to face with the classic regions of the world.

Join me at the Wines from Spain Annual Tasting in Edinburgh on 20 May for a Masterclass and tutored tasting that will shatter perceptions of Spain as a producer of mostly classic, old-fashioned or heavily oaked wines.

I’ll take you to witness firsthand some of the changes Spain has witnessed over the last decade. Varieties that were once reviled or considered uninteresting due to poor viticultural practices will be highlighted and celebrated. And we will look out how new generations of young winegrowers have to re-learn and understand the nature of a viticultural heritage that was lost but recovered through shared knowledge and renewed interest.

From the volcanic slopes of Northern Tenerife, passing through the vertical vineyards of Ribeira Sacra (where viticulture is a heroic act in itself) and the historical terraced vineyards in Ribeiro, all the way to the fresher side of the Mediterranean, we will be tasting a range of wines that focus on soil. We will discover places that will leave you breathless!

Miguel Crunia’s ‘Off the Beaten Track’ masterclass will take place at the Wines from Spain Annual Tasting in Edinburgh on 20 May. The tasting will feature the following wines:
