Spanish Wines Among the Best in the World at the International Wine Challenge 2020

Several Spanish wines, including red, white and fortified, appeared in the list of the 30 best and others took home a wide range of trophies

The results are in from the 37th edition of the International Wine Challenge 2020, one of the most rigorous wine competitions in the world. After a very intense blind tasting, the panel of judges officially chose the 30 best wines in the world, with winners coming from 14 different countries.

Spanish wines performed extremely well. In the Great Value Champions Awards segment, the winners were El Duque de Miralta Rioja Reserva 2015, El Coto de Rioja (red wine); Viñas del Rey Albariño 2019, Pagos del Rey (white); and Cream Sherry NV, Gonzalez Byass (fortified). Additionally, Sergio Martínez from Emilio Lustau winery won the IWC Fortified Winemaker of the Year Award for 2020.

As for the trophy winners, Lustau Oloroso V.O.R.S. 30 Years from Emilio Lustau won for sherry, Legaris Moradillo de Roa from Raventós Codorniú won for red wine, and Granbazan Limousin from Agro de Bazán won for white wine.

Other notable winners in the Regional Trophy segment included Liber, Mas d’en Blei (Priorat Trophy); Harveys Very Old Amontillado V.O.R.S. 30 YO, Bodegas Fundador (Amontillado); Cream Bertola, Bodegas Y Viñedos Diez Merito (Cream Sherry); Tío Pepe Tres Palmas, González Byass (Fino); Lustau Oloroso V.O.R.S. 30 Years, Emilio Lustau (Oloroso); and Marqués de Vargas Gran Reserva, Bodega Marques de Vargas (Rioja Gran Reserva).
