The ceremony for the prestigious AA Hospitality Awards 2018 was held last night at London’s Grosvenor Hotel. These distinctions seek to recognize outstanding hotels, restaurants and their teams in the UK. Winners were announced in a total of 12 categories, as were the winners of four and five rosettes and five red stars. These include the wine award, foodservice award, customer choice, hotel of the year, housekeeper of the year, lifetime achievement award, chef of the year, and pub of the year, among others.
There was, of course, a Spanish presence on the list: Nieves Barragán’s restaurant Sabor made the grade with the AA Restaurant of the Year for London distinction. This award, sponsored by Food and Travel Magazine, recognizes “restaurants that provide cuisine of a truly excellent standard, as well as demonstrating innovation and ambience and providing a high standard of hospitality.”
An AA Inspector highlighted Sabor as “[delivering] an authentic regional experience via its trio of dining options.” From the asador on the second floor, with its authentic communal tables, to the tapas served downstairs, to the views of the “high-energy open kitchen,” guests are delighted by the delicious Spanish fare, which includes everything from Segovia-style roast suckling pig and Galician-style octopus to grilled monkfish consommé and bull’s tail stew. Details like the wood-fired oven and the Andalusian tiles create a unique environment that leaves a lasting impression on customers.
