Many Spanish Chefs Participate in Gastromasa Conference in Istanbul

Ángel León, Paco Morales, Dani Garcia, Oriol Castro and Quique Dacosta attended the event to share their expertise and talk about their techniques

Chefs from around the world touched down in Turkey on November 17th for the International Gastromasa Gastronomy Conference, now in its 4th edition. Hosted at the Wyndam Grand Istanbul Levent, the theme of this year’s event was “Creativity” and it was packed with presentations and demos as chefs shared their techniques, tricks and expertise.

Plenty of Spanish chefs attended the event. This included Oriol Castro, who runs the Michelin-star and Repsol-sun restaurant Disfrutar with Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas. Another heavyweight was Ángel León, who has made a name for himself and his restaurant, Aponiente, for his steadfast commitment to, and creativity with, products from the sea. They were joined by Quique Dacosta, whose eponymous restaurant was awarded three Michelin stars back in 2012. He runs the Mercatbar and El Poblet restaurants as well. Another Spaniard was Dani García, who runs a Michelin-star restaurant in Marbella that focuses on Andalusian food. And last but certainly not least, was Paco Morales. He runs the restaurant Noor, in Córdoba, and just last year he was named Best Chef of the Year by Tapas Magazine.

The goal of Gastromasa is to “build a bridge between Turkish and world cuisine… [and host] leading figures from the gastronomy world…” as well as highlight local culinary customs.
