Spanish Art & Gastronomy

Date: 3rd October

Time: 6.30 pm-8 pm

Price: €25

Location: Instituto Cervantes in Dublin

Address: Lincoln House, 6-16 Lincoln Place. Dublín

As part of Eat Spain, Drink Spain, we will explore Spanish paintings from the National Gallery of Ireland through a gastronomic lens. Spanish food expert and writer Blanca Valencia will pair her favourite paintings with Spain's iconic grape varieties—Tempranillo, Verdejo, and Albariño—and other food products like sobrasada, almonds and Ibérico ham.

The selected paintings include "Kitchen Maid with Supper at Emmaus" (1617-1618) by Diego Velázquez, "Dona Antonia de Zárate" (1810-1811) by Francisco de Goya, and "Still Life with Mandolin" (1924) by Pablo Picasso. Additionally, we will delve into the significance of water and its vessels in the works of Diego Velázquez and Francisco de Zurbarán, and learn expressions like "está como un botijo," as well as why, in Spain, when it rains, we say "llueve a cántaros."
