More than 60 Spanish Wines Take Home Distinctions at the Frankfurt International Trophy

In the Frankfurt International Trophy there were two grand gold wines and more than 60 gold and silver medal winners for Spanish wines.

Spanish wines were in the spotlight recently at the Frankfurt International Trophy, which recognizes the best wine, beer and spirits from around the world.

The Wine Trophy, held at the Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten in Frankfurt, Germany, uses a panel of judges that includes both sommeliers and regular consumers. Over 2,000 wines from 30 countries across the world participated and Spanish wines performed very well.

Two Spanish wines took home the highest distinction possible, a grand gold medal: Lagar do Cigur Crianza 2013, from DO Valdeorras; and 61 Dorado en Rama, from DO Rueda.

Another 66 wines from across Spain took gold home and silver medals. Gold winners included Corte Mayor Viñas Viejas Reserve, from PDO Rioja; Malkoa Bodega Astobiza 2016, from PDO Chacolí de Alava – Arabako Txacolina; Morente Crianza, from PDO Valencia; and Altius Reserva, from PDO Cariñena. Silver winners included Ontalba Monastrell Syrah Ecologico, from PDO Jumilla; Finca Valdelagua, from Vino de la Tierra Castilla; Parreño, from PDO Utiel-Requena; Pozuelo Crianza 2017, from PDO Yecla; Estel, from Vino de la Tierra Mallorca; and Espumoso Feitizo da Noite Extra Brut, from PDO Rias Baixas.

Several Spanish beers also took home awards, with five gold and two silver medals, and three Spanish spirits received distinctions. Perepérez Garrido Valencian Orange Gin took home a grand gold award while a brandy and another gin received gold distinctions.
