SIAL CANADA is the most important food promotion event in Canada and one of the most important in North America. Nineteen editions have already been held alternately between the cities of Toronto and Montreal. This year's edition will take place in the city of Toronto from May 9 to 11 and will feature 11 Spanish companies in the Spain Pavilion. In addition to these 11 companies, there will also be other Spanish companies attending.

Aimed exclusively at a professional audience, SIAL CANADA attracts a large number of leading international buyers from the food sector, as well as opinion leaders from Canada and the United States.

The show is the only event of its kind in Canada, bringing together more than 1,000 national and international exhibitors from 50 countries and welcoming more than 20,000 professional visitors from Canada, the United States and 60 other countries.

SIAL CANADA is the only national trade show to offer a complete range of food products under one roof meeting the needs of the retail, food service and food processing industries.

To better understand the position of Spanish products in the Canadian market it is important to know that in Canada, Spanish products are beginning to occupy a preferential place in the minds of the Canadian population, thanks in part to the gastronomy. Spanish products are well known and highly valued in gourmet food stores, as many of them focus their distribution mainly in this type of establishments, especially for products such as olive oil, cheese, and cold cuts.

Below we include Canada's export data for these products for 2022.

As for olive oil, in 2022, 29% of olive oil exports came from Spain, making it the second largest exporter after Italy. On the other hand, exports of olives from Spain reached 43%, making it the leading exporter of this product.

While cheese exports only represent 2%, it should be noted that exports of this product have experienced an interannual growth of 31%.

Finally, Spain is the third largest exporter of cured swine meat after the USA and Italy and, although it represents only 3% of total exports, the value of exports has been growing steadily over the last five years, increasing by 31%.

On the occasion of the largest food innovation trade show in North America: SIAL CANADA 2023, ICEX Spain Trade and Investment in collaboration with Spain Canada Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) is organizing a Wine Tasting and Networking event which will take place Tuesday, May 9th at The Wine Academy in Toronto.
