ICEX/Food and Wines from Spain in Portugal, in collaboration with the Economic and Commercial Department of the Spanish Embassy in Lisbon, organize a virtual tasting of cheeses produced in Spain. This Event will be exclusively for professionals from the retail and Horeca channels, as well as for communicators (journalists and influencers). It is an innovative alternative to in-person tastings, which unfortunately are suspended due to the pandemic.

Pedro Cardoso, one of the leading cheese experts in Portugal and owner of the oldest selling point of artisanal and quality cheeses in the country, Queijaria Cheese Shop, will guide participants on a sensory and gastronomic journey through Spain through 13 varieties of cheese from different regions and Appellations of Origin, almost all awarded in World Cheese Awards. This trip will take place on the 25th of October, Monday, and will be rebroadcast on the ICEX channel on YouTube as well as through a digital platform. Registered professionals will receive the cheeses at their homes, as well as other materials and products to accompany the tasting. We count on your presence and company on this trip!
The tremendous variety of Spanish Cheeses stems from Spain’s geographical and climatic diversity. They are made from the milk of cows, ewes, and goats, as well as different blends of these, and in most cases the milk is obtained from native breeds. Coagulation may be by enzymes, lactic acid or mixed, and cheeses may be round or square, of different sizes, and with rinds of different colors – often engraved and sometimes smoked, rubbed with oil or flavored with spices. Alongside large-scale industrial production, there are also small dairies producing artisan cheeses that retain their authentic characteristics and traditional flavours.
The duration will be about 90 minutes for the presentation and tasting of the cheeses. If there is time, there will be a question panel at the end of the event.
